smudge studio's woodland aperture project at The Porches Inn at MASS MoCA

We built a series of aperture kits for guests to make and use during their stay at The Porches Inn at MASS MoCA.

The kits contain:
1) materials that are easily assembled into apertures of various sizes and shapes.
2) photographs by smudge studio shot through apertures of the woodlands to serve as inspiration for kit users created during our residency.
3) a postcard invitation for kit users to submit their aperture photos to smudge studio's online exhibition (gallery link below).

We also installed three weatherproof apertures in the woodlands findable by map available at the front desk. These apertures offer unexpected and surprising views of the woodlands area. They serve as inspiration for kit users and offer those visiting the woodlands area ways to experience it newly and differently.

This project offers visitors an opportunity to become part of an online exhibition and engage with the landscape surrounding The Porches Inn. It offers all guests an invitation to extend their experience into the surrounding woodlands and activate smudge studio's site-specific response to the area.
