NEWS AND EVENTS

smudge will be artists-in-residence at Bridge To, Kyoto, March 002025

We will be undertaking a walking and slow observation (+ tea) practice with the intention of "placing the human in its more-than-human context."  We'll frame our observations through Kyoto’s geological, historical, cosmological and meteorological forces, as well as how the city's contemporary design and visual culture interacts with, and is informed by, the city's ancient geomantic design. We will observe how more than human forces flow into and as the 1000+ year old city, and arrive into (our) individual human visitors' experiences of this changing place.

REAL PLACES MAINE is a research project toward the creation of site-responsive, large poster-murals to be installed on the exteriors of abandoned buildings at several locations across Maine. Sites and buildings will be studied and selected for how they inspire and invite creative responses to their highly specific environmental, social, and historical contexts and conditions. The research will also test mural materials viability, i.e. non-toxic inks, weather-proofing, compostable paper-fabric, and methods for attaching poster-murals to buildings in a non-permanent, non-destructive way. The project’s ultimate aim is to create and display image-sensations of “belonging” and “place-ness” within Maine landscapes, built and natural.

Storehouse of Reserve will be on exhibit at Riso-Rama's National Juried Exhibition, Paradiso, Flex Space Gallery, San Marcos, TX.
